Steve Knell, CPA

Steve Knell joined AFCEA in 2003 bringing with him 19 years of nonprofit accounting and finance experience. His career includes work with a number of membership and trade associations, charitable, governmental, political, and other exempt organizations.
Mr. Knell earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from George Mason University and a Masters of Accountancy from George Washington University. After graduation, he became a senior auditor with Coopers & Lybrand specializing in the audits of nonprofit entities.
In his subsequent work, he coupled his passion for fly fishing and accounting by working as the CFO for The American Sportfishing Association and The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation. He has held similar positions at other environmental, recreational, and professional associations.
As the lead accountant, Mr. Knell serves as liaison to the Assocation’s Audit Committee and Budget and Finance Committee. He is also the point-person to assist AFCEA Chapters with accounting, finance, tax and other related issues.
An ardent outdoorsman, hunter and angler, he enjoys the woods at his home in Huntly, VA.
