FAIRFAX, VA — MILCOM, the premier military communications event, will be held at the Wardman Park Marriott and Omni Shoreham Hotels in Washington, D.C., October 23-25, 2006.

Co-sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Communications Society, MILCOM celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Northrop Grumman Corporation and Cisco Systems are the corporate co-hosts of the event, MITRE Corporation is providing technical support and the Defense Information Systems Agency is the military advisor for the conference.

“The unique and focused content and critical exchange of information makes MILCOM the leading annual forum to discuss communications issues facing U.S. and coalition forces,” said retired Navy Vice Adm. Herb Browne, president and chief executive officer of AFCEA.  “All of us on the MILCOM team are proud of this year’s stellar technical program, continuing the conference’s 25-year tradition of excellence.”

MILCOM draws over 2000 attendees from government, industry, our allies and top educational institutions. Featured speakers will include the Honorable John Grimes, assistant secretary of defense for networks and information integration; Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Croom Jr., director, Defense Information Systems Agency; Navy Rear Adm. Victor See Jr., director of communications systems acquisition and operations directorate, National Reconnaissance Office; retired Navy Adm. Dennis Blair, president, Institute for Defense Analyses and former commander, U.S. Pacific Command; Jerry Agee, corporate vice president and president, Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems sector; and Tom Brokaw, author and former anchor and managing editor for NBC Nightly News.

New this year is the Mission Possible theater, a professionally-staged mock battlefield exercise. The simulated experience features interoperable emerging technology demonstrations in a realistic battlefield setting. The scenario stages a rogue nation massing forces against a North Atlantic Treaty Organization ally and a coalition force rapidly deploying to the conflict.

The conference will also include classified and unclassified sessions, discussion panels and tutorials on advanced technology in military communications. Papers and sessions will highlight issues in military communications including communication modeling and analysis; Department of Defense communications programs and initiatives; digital processing, routing and protocols; operational concepts; wireless technologies; laser communication technologies; Internet Protocol Version 6 and unmanned aerial vehicle technology.

MILCOM 2006 will be a meeting of decision makers from government, military, academia, foreign allies and industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with leading communication subject matter experts on the latest military technology advancements. Details and online registration are available at www.milcom.org.
