Overview

LGS Innovations, an independent subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent, again will offer applicants for AFCEA graduate-level scholarships an exciting, hands-on, internship opportunity for summer 2009.  The LGS Internship gives students the ability to work with legendary Bell Labs scientists in real-life projects that allow the application of their talents to solve some of the biggest challenges in communications today.

Student Qualifications

The opportunity is extended to graduate students studying for degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (Network Security), and Optics (Physicists), who have applied for an AFCEA graduate-level scholarship or fellowship during 2008-2009.

Logistics

Two students, based on requirements above, will be offered a 10+ week summer program in the Florham Park, New Jersey (Northern NJ) facility for summer 2009.  Interns will be paid a market-based appropriate hourly wage and housing will be provided by a partial grant from Future Heroes, a Fisher family organization.

Types of Projects

The LGS Internships program gives students the opportunity to work on ongoing projects for the U.S. government as well as to collaborate each day with researchers from LGS BEll Labs.  Interns will be placed in one of three key focus areas: Photonics Applications & Development Department, Advanced Communications & Networking Department or the Internet Research Department.

Application

Eligible graduate students applying for one of the AFCEA graduate-level scholarships or fellowships during spring 2008 will be asked to indicate their interest for consideration as part of the online application form.  For questions, contact Norma Corrales at email.
