Track 1A: Maritime and Northern Border Security

Track 2A: National Capital Region Readiness and Response

The National Capital Region is the fourth largest U.S. metropolitan area and encompasses 12 local jurisdictions in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia; all three Branches of the Federal Government; 4.5 million residents and more than 20 million tourists annually; more than 2,100 non-profit organizations and more than 40 colleges and universities; the second largest rail transit system and the fifth largest bus network in the United States. This panel will discuss the geographic, political, economic and social complexity of the National Capital Region and the collaboration and coordination required for an effective Homeland Security plan.

Track 2B: Readiness and Response

Panel: "How Geospatial Technology, Information and Data Support Homeland Security Preparedness, Response and Recovery Operations"

Geospatial technology, information and data continue to play a major role in the support of Homeland Security and Homeland Defense Preparedness, Response and Recovery Operations. The panel will address the individual and coordinated efforts that are taking place between the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and America's Security Affairs, Department of Homeland Security Infrastructure Information Collection Division, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Office of Americas, US Geological Survey National Geospatial Programs Office, and State and Local Governments to improve infrastructure information collection and sharing for Homeland Security and Homeland Defense. The Department of Homeland Security Infrastructure Information Collection Division will provide a demonstration of the Integrated Common Analytic Viewer (iCAV). The iCAV is a Geospatial-Intelligence analytical tool associated with the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Geospatial Information Infrastructure (GII). iCAV, which is fully integrated in the National Operations Center for Situational Awareness and Decision Support, unites Homeland Security (HLS) mission partners through an integrated Geographic Information System Services Oriented Architecture for Web-based dissemination, analysis, and visualization. iCAV provides a geospatial context for HLS-related activities nationwide to better prepare for, prevent, respond and recover from natural and man-made disasters.
